Polyetherimide (PEI)

Common name:
Polyetherimide

Chemical Acronym:
PEI

Common resin tradenames:

Ultem

Polyetherimide is a high-performance amorphous polymer offering a 338°F (170°C) continuous use temperature and good resistance to hot water and steam including common sterilization cycles used within the medical industry. It is inherently flame resistant with one of the best flammability ratings and has very unique dielectric properties especially at high frequencies.

Polyetherimide is  often used for reusable medical devices, food processing equipment parts that are exposed to hot water and electronic connectors. Introduced in 1982 by General Electric Plastics it was introduced as an upgrade to polysulfone  with improved ductility and chemical resistance. Today PEI is widely used for both injection molded and machined parts.

WarrenPSI offers all grades of polyetherimide
