Polysulfone is a high-performance amorphous polymer offering a 300°F continuous use temperature and resistance to hot water and steam including common sterilization cycles used within the medical industry. It has good transparency and is inherently flame resistant.
Polysulfone is commonly used for reusable medical devices, food processing equipment parts that are exposed to hot water and electronic housings and connectors. Introduced in the mid 1960’s by Union Carbide it was one of the earliest high temperature plastics. Today materials like PEI and PPSU are often considered first as they are more widely available.
